This page describes those things we do both as events and social activities that might give others a better idea of who we are and what we do.
January 29, 2011 – Membership Drive - Our first real event of the year was held at the Middendorf-Kredell branch of the St. Charles City/County Library on Highway K in O’Fallon, MO. The meeting area was semi-partitioned into two sections. The first section being the membership area with Membership Director, Danielle Goodman manning the membership tables and guiding new and renewing members through the membership process. There was a slide-show of last year’s activites and a number of members, in garb, to meet and greet those that came in. The rear section was set up with several excellent demos including our gypsy barterer displaying a great variety of wares, several different types of looming and a net maker, a face-painting station and an excellent display of Steampunk items. In fact, the big hit of the day was the wonderful demonstration and talk by members Shannon Sofian and Louise Hermes on developing Steampunk characters and accessories. Also on hand was LHC Stage Combat Director, Erik Burnett, to give boffer sword fighting lessons to the wee ones and Vice Chair/Treasurer Tammy Duncan with a lesson on stage accents. We appreciate all who came by. We had a good number of renewing members and some first time members. Besides it being a successful day, it was good to be back in garb and doing some of the things we do. Photos will be posted soon.
January 30, 2011 – Brunch Social – Our first social event of the year was brunch at Sherlock’s in Cottleville, MO. We got turned on to this place last year as a good place to meet, eat and schmooze and we seem to be doing the brunch thing here on a fairly regular basis now. But Sherlock’s is always accommodating, has good food and service and we all seem to like it. A good number of us turned out and we spent a grand two hours or so in fine company. The invitation is always open to all member or prospective members who would like to join us at these events.
February 3, 2011 – Board of Directors Meeting - There’s nothing special about a board meeting but this time we decided to meet at JJ’s Restaurant on Veterans Memorial Parkway in O’Fallon, MO. The new twist was that we designated 6:00 to 7:00 as the “Dinner Hour” with the meeting to begin at 7:00. The socializing and lack of experience at holding this sort of meeting caused us to get the meeting started about 20 minutes late. But all-in-all, it worked out very well and we all enjoyed the meeting. We decided that we will do this at our next board meeting also. As always, interested members are invited to attend the board meetings and you are especially invited to join us for dinner too.
February 5, 2011 – Polar Plunge for Special Olympics – Anyone who thinks LHC staffers aren’t tough should have been out at Lake Saint Louis today when LHC Vice Char/Treasurer, Tammy Duncan, and Board Member and Events Director, Anita Branson, took the plunge into Lake Saint Louis to benefit the Special Olympics. Crowded best describes the event as there was an overflow crowd of bystanders and plungers dressed in any outfit you could think of. There was at least a foot of snow and ice on the ground but fortunately, the sun was out and the temperature was a little above freezing. But it definitely was not swimming weather. So it’s a tip of our hats and a big HUZZAH to our two brave woMen In Black. I was only able to get a picture of the ladies before the event. Hopefully, we’ll be able to put some more up soon.

February 16, 2011 – TTB Committee Meeting – The committee met at Frank Dvorak’s home, the first meeting of the new committee. Danielle Goodman was elected Committee Chair and Frank agreed to serve as Secretary. Wrap-up notes from last year’s committee were reviewed and planning for the next TTB was started.
March 1, 2011 – Policy Committee Meeting - The first meeting of the new, 2011 Policy Committee was held at Frank Dvorak’s home. Frank Dvorak agreed to remain as Chairman of the Committee. Time was spent in establishing the direction of the Committee for 2011.
