For our inaugural year, 2010 was a very busy year.  To start things off, we became a Missouri non-profit corporation and  are now  working on obtaining federal 501(c)(3) status.  We participated in a number of events, visited new events with an eye to the future and  we held a number of social events just for the fun and camaraderie.  We would like to share some of what we did in 2010 with you.

Here’s Some of What We Did in 2010

Tartan Days

April 9 – 11, 2010

St. Charles, Missouri

It’s 16th century Scotland and our lovely queen, Mary Queen of Scots, is out taking in a day in the country and granting audience with any who would wish to speak with her.  Naturally she has with her some of her court, a contingent of guards and soldiers and a number of trades people and commoners.

Historical Children’s Festival

May 15, 2010

First Missouri State Capitol, St. Charles, Missouri

What did people do in St. Charles in the 1820′s?  We are at the First State Capitol building, along with some other volunteers, to show young and old some of the skills used back in those days.  It was scheduled to be an outdoor event but the day started off cool and drizzly.  So the great crew at the First State Capitol moved everything indoors into the rooms of the first state capitol building.  Considering that it was a spur of the moment relocation, it worked out wonderfully and after a bit, the crowds came.  We spent an enjoyable day showing some of the skills and crafts of the 1820′s.

The Lower Town Arts and Music Festival

May 21 – 23, 2010

Paducah, Kentucky

Balcony theater, working the streets and just having a weekend of fun with folks that both appreciated us and loved what we did.  For those of us that were there, this was hands down, the most fun thing we did all year.  We even had several of our skits filmed by a professional production company.  We filmed an interview for a promo and were interviewed by the local PBS radio station.  This was one of the best audiences we’ve ever worked with, the city is beautiful and we can’t wait to go back again in 2011.

The Jefferson City Renaissance Festival

June 26, 2010

Jefferson City, Missouri

What better way to reasonably explain the presence of two queens and two kings than the Field of the Cloth of Gold, France, 1520, where King Henry VIII, Catherine of Aragon, King Francois I and Queen Claude spend a week of negotiations and games, surrounded by royal lavishness such as the world had never seen.  This was the biggest event we did and is one that everyone looked forward to doing.  And even though it was hot, one of the hottest events we have done, it was a truly great day.  And it had the added benefit of us getting to work with a great group of nobles, and new friends,  from the kingdom of Iowa, The House of Sydney.

Wabash Days Parade

August 28, 2010

Wentzville, Missouri

The annual Wabash Days celebration in Wentzville, MO offered a chance to be in the parade and help publicize our group.  In the process we took first place and won a $100.00 prize.  With the railroad theme, we adopted the theme of Get On Board with the Living History Company and advertised the upcoming Time Travelers Ball with a ticket booth and waiting room on the float.  Naturally, we represented a great number of time periods from Egyptian and Roman to the old West and Civil War.

The Race for the River

September 4, 2010

St. Charles, Missouri

This event, while small and little publicized, is one of the most fun events of the year.  This is an event that has the potential for great growth over the coming years.  Both the event organizers and LHC are very excited about our participation in this event.  Our pirate camp looked great this year and we had a good turnout.  We can’t wait to expand it in 2011.

First Annual Membership Meeting

November 13, 2010

St. Charles, Missouri

Time to take care of company business, take a look back at what we did over the past year and elect members to the Board of Directors.  The meeting was held in the morning at the same hall in which we would hold the Time Traveler’s Ball later that day.  The hall provided coffee and tea and LHC provided plenty of donuts and pastries.  During the meeting we watched a Power Point presentation of some of the things we had done during the year and some of the events we could look forward to in 2011.  We also were treated to a great Power Point presentation on the history of clothing styles by two of our excellent costume mistresses.  Each member was given a ballot of candidates for the Board of Directors upon entering the hall and after the presentations, the new Board of Directors for 2011 was announced.  Of course, there was plenty of socializing before, during and after the meeting.  And, at the conclusion of the meeting, many stayed around to help decorate for the upcoming Time Travelers Ball.

First Annual Time Travelers Ball

November 13, 2010

St. Charles, Missouri

What an event.  Our first attempt at a ball was a smashing success.  Absolutely nobody went away disappointed, and, much to our satisfaction, we even made a little money on it.  Huzzah!  We started the evening with a social hour during which there were raffle items to check out and an outstanding table of period items for sale with the proceeds going to the Agape store in Warrenton, a non-profit charitable organization sponsored by a number of local churches.  Sodas, wine, beer and mixed drinks were available at the bar with free water, tea and coffee.  We also had three period vignettes, western, Victorian/Civil War and medieval, available for guests to pose in and professional photographers to take photographs if desired.  Then, a delicious, catered dinner started the evening followed by a great evening of dancing and generally having a good time.  We can’t wait for next year to do it again and we sincerely thank everyone who attended and participated.

Here’s a look at some of the faces and costumes at the ball.  We didn’t have an available or usable photo of everyone so we’re sorry if we missed you.

More faces and costumes.

St. Louis Christmas in St. Louis Parade

November 25, 2010 (Thanksgiving Day)

St. Louis, MO

The day started off cold and cloudy.  Then our balloon didn’t want to hold air and died before we even got out of the staging area.  But we marched as a group anyway and got some nice attention and some excellent TV time.  And all the while, it rained.  And sleeted.  And got colder.  And by the time we were done, we were a cold, bedraggled lot to say the least.  But it was an event we won’t soon forget.  And in spite of everything, we did it, from start to finish.

Our poor, old toy soldier must have had too much party the night before.  He just wasn’t up to the job this morning and had to be left behind.

Wentzville Christmas Parade

December 5, 2010

Wentzville, MO

Another cold event but this one at night.  But we bundled up the kids on the float, handed out a lot of candy and had a great time.

Aside from these events, there were a number of things we did to research possible activities for the coming year.  These activities would include things like visiting the Fort Des Chartres Rendezvous in Prairie Du Rocher, a French-Indian war event.  We also visited the Battle of Pilot Knob Civil War re-enactment in Pilot Knob, Missouri.  We also visited A Walk Back in Time in Mexico, Missouri, which has representative re-enactors  from multiple periods.
